Shimano Expands Butterfly Jigging System
IRVINE, Calif. - Mid-Year ’07 Intro -- Saltwater anglers have quickly realized the fishing success when using Shimano’s Butterfly Jigging System, and now the tackle manufacturer expands the system with the introduction of 54 new flat-side jigs. Depending on their weight, the flat-side jigs retail from $12.99 to $22.99.

“The way anglers have grasped on to our Butterfly jigs - and the whole concept of the Shimano Butterfly Jigging System - really exceeded our expectations,” said Ted Sakai, Shimano’s Gear product manager. “With these new flat-side jigs, we’re continuing to focus on this highly productive and highly successful way to catch a variety of saltwater species.”

Primarily designed for an angle/vertical jig presentation from a drifting boat, fishing from 150-feet down and deeper, the Butterfly flat-side jigs have a 3-D asymmetrical patent-pending design, along with a flat half mirror finish. This finish, notes Sakai, provides a look that especially appeals to bottom species such as snapper and grouper. “Anglers need to be alert and ready as the jig fall being that it will trigger strikes,” Sakai said. “The rear/center weight balance design drops the jig quickly to the bottom with a swinging motion.”

Another key feature - an offset eyeball position - allows anglers to use two different hook lengths for an overall better hooking ratio.

The Butterfly flat-side jigs are available in 4-, 5-, 6-, 8-, 10- and 12-ounces weights, and each are offered in nine different colors - blue/mackerel; green/sardine; purple/black; pink/blue; brown/aji; black/anchovy; gold/red - along with glow-in-the-dark versions in chartreuse/white and live squid. Sakai notes that the three lighter size jigs have a short pitch, walk-the-dog vertical action, while the walk-the-dog action on 8-, 10- and 12- ounce models are ideal for deeper jigging and faster currents.
